SDG 3 : GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Good health and well-being are the two-term with different meanings as good health we can said the care of the human body and everything that can be done to keep it free from disease as well as to make healthcare accessible while well-being can be identified as a feeling of satisfaction with life, a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity. These two terms are significant in our life as we need good health and good well-being in order to build prosperous societies.

In Malaysia, tuberculosis and the death rate of traffic accidents are common occurrences in our country. According to Zaliha Mustafa, our Health Minister, Malaysia has seen a spike number of in the number of tuberculosis (TB) cases over the past year. While the number of deaths has increased by 12 percent from 2,288 to 2,572 over the same time, the number of cases recorded in 2022 was 25,391 compared to 21,727 reported a year earlier. It can't be denied that the number of deaths and tuberculosis is still high.

In addition, as a student, I believe that apart from tuberculosis and road deaths, it is crucial that we do not neglect mental health issue because it has a significant impact on our body. In my view, many Malaysian students experience severe stress and migraines as a result of several causes. In this context, it will affect the well-being of an individual since the individual will choose solitude to mingle with society and feel insecure and lack of confidence in public.

In order to achieve good health and well-being in Malaysia, there are several efforts by The ministry which launched the 'Let's TALK' campaign to help Malaysians understand how important mental health is. In addition, to accommodate the heavy call demand, the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health's (15555) HEAL hotline, which provides a 24-hour emotional support helpline, will extend its hours of operation. Therefore, an individual does not bear the burden alone because of getting an emotional support helpline.

Lastly,  achieving good health and well-being is not a function of a single factor but a combination of many different variables. We must take fast action to ensure that Malaysian society maintains good health and well-being and start promoting and protecting our own health and the health of those around us.
