SUISTANABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

SDG 1 : NO POVERTY 



                In this blog, I would like to explain an issue about the level of poverty in Malaysia which is related to the first sustainable development goals, namely no poverty. I have read Malaysia News on the website that Bumiputera community is most hardcore poor compared to the other races. According Rafizi Ramli, Ministry of Economy, said the poverty rate for Bumiputeras was 7.2%, followed by the Indians 4.8% and the Chinese 1.4%. 




            I frequently question if Malaysia has met the Sustainable Development Goals , but what I have observed is that there are many more disadvantaged groups in Malaysia, as evidenced by the large number of homeless individuals I continue to see in the KLCC area even though we already inform KLCC is a developed city that is very popular with tourists. Additionally, many individuals are still begging for money at restaurants, night market areas, and on the side of the road.




              In Malaysia, the government invests a lot of money each year to lift people out of the deepest levels of poverty. Success is measured by the number of individuals who start to move beyond the poverty line. These successes have been undone, however, by the COVID-19 pandemic epidemic, which has forced the impoverished back into poverty. Following COVID-19, there were 57.8% more newly poor persons, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), with the number of poor families increasing from 405,400 in 2019 to 639,800 in 2020.


                Furthermore, to ensure that Malaysia can achieve the first goals in sustainable development goals by reorganising the government's policies because it is necessary, with a focus on rural development. Grants and microloans must be used to boost economic activity in rural regions so that microbusinesses can grow and add to the local labour force.

                  
                Lastly, achieving zero hunger is not a function of a single factor but a combination of many different variables. We must take fast action to ensure that Malaysian society maintains reduce poverty to live in peaceful.
